Curtis Sillo's Review of Rushjet1's Megaman II GB Remake Album.
Introduction:
When a Megaman aficionado is asked what if they can name a track from Megaman from the top of their heads, Alot of people will Instantly Think of Wily Castle 1 and 2. Love it or hate it, That track is arguably the most famous track of the series. Now, ask the same people about it's Game Boy counterpart. It's a completely different story. Most will say that the soundtrack is grating to their ears. Others will say that while the Pitch is bad, the tracks are actually entertaining. Daresay Underrated. I fall under the latter crowd. I love the MMIIGB's Soundtrack, with Airman's track being my favorite track of the series. But I can agree that how these songs are played... Are not so pleasant to the ears. One day I was browsing around youtube for remixes for the said soundtrack something that would these tracks justice, and I stumbled upon a user named Rushjet1. Intrigued, and having enjoyed his MM3 remake album, took a peek at his channel. Lo and Behold, He did a remake album of MMIIGB.
Fast forward to today and I am enjoying this Album. But is it for everyone else?
Review
We begin the album with a stunning rendition of the title theme. The theme starts soft and builds up beautifully to set the mood of the album. Then we move on to the Stage select theme which gives off the vibe that this is a mission that will test Megaman to his limits.
Here is where we hear the theme of our first Robot Master: Metal Man. The track's mood is a mixure of upbeat and somber. I feel that this remix really capture the personality of Metal Man.
Now we move on to Wood man's theme. Again a more somber tone that paints a tragedy to Wood Man. A really solid track by itself.
Now, many people might look at me weird for saying this... but Air Man's GB theme is my favorite of the series. The melody is just has a melancholy vibe to it. Sadly the instruments in the original didn't do the track justice. Fortunately, Rushjet1 did do the track justice! The Melancholy was there and I sensed abit of optimism in this track. Rushjet gets a personal thumbs up from me!
And so we reach Clash Man's theme. It's upbeat and the added drums were a nice touch. Nothing more to say about this other than that this is yet another recommended track.
The next track is a short but sweet track that tells the listener that this is the halfway point of the game and we're only gonna face tougher odds from here.
Top man's gb theme remix is top notch. I love it better than the remix of his NES counterpart. Rushjet Once again delivers on this track.
Hard Man's theme remix is another track I love over his NES counterpart. It has the same Melancholic/Somber and upbeat vibe as Airman and Metalman. Another Solid track.
Needle Man's Remix continues the The Melancholic Upbeat vibe that Hard Man's theme left off. It starts off soft and builds up the drums. Yet another amazing which I recommend.
Magnet Man's Is very high tech and Adrenaline pumping. Rushjet once again brings this track to its true potential.
The boss theme is... well... Upbeat and it brings a new twist to the track. But I have to say it isn't my favorite. I can't quite put my finger on it. It isn't a bad track, just not my cup of tea I guess.
Quint's theme sets the mood to an otherwise easy boss fight. But, man! Is his them just adrenaline pumping! I can seriously see myself head bopping to this while fighting Quint. Such a shame this character was so under used.
And now we get an uptempo version of Quint's theme. Short and Sweet and sets the mood for the final stage.
In short Rushjet1's Megaman IIGB Remix album is a stellar homage to the GB tracks I've grown to love. If you are a fan of Video game music I recommend you download it off of Rushjet1's Bandcamp or Better yet, pay for it. (While the album is free, I recommend at least put in a dollar to purchase this album along with his other albums) If you are a fan of Rushjet1's music, if you a fan of Megaman's Music, hell, if you are fan of Megaman in general, then I recommend you pick this up. I promise you will be pleasantly surprised.
